International beach volleyball course set

The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) has been allocated a Beach Volleyball Grassroots Course by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (World Body FIVB), slated to run from June 24  to 29, 2013 at the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sports’ (MCYS)  sand court Carifesta Avenue.

The clinic is scheduled to start at 9.00am and FIVB instructor, Mauro Hernandez from Venezuela will be arriving in Guyana on June 23 along with two participants, Johan Gutierres and Leonardo Ojeda to conduct sessions.

The core aim of the course is in keeping with the direction of the FIVB which suggested development for Levels 1 and 2 federations to understand and improve; Beach Volleyball, School Volleyball and Community Volleyball.

Being an Olympic sport, Beach Volleyball is gaining worldwide popularity and the GVF is committed to developing this format of the game, since a two-person game is cost effective and can permit the GVF to send teams to compete outside of Guyana if necessary.

The GVF has also indicated that a great number of participants, both male and female have signed up for the course.

Officials from the local body have also expressed their gratitude for the support given by MCYS in granting permission to use the sand court and facilities for the hosting of this event.
