Around 60 expected at P&P tennis camp

The 9th edition of the P and P Insurance/Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) junior camp was officially launched yesterday at a press briefing at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

The camp which had its origins in 2004 and will be held at two venues in Georgetown from the 9th to the 12th of July is specifically geared towards individuals between the age ranges of 6-18.

Individuals between the ages of 6-11 will be accommodated at the National Gymnasium whilst players between the ages of 12-18 will be held at the National Racquet Centre in Woolford Avenue.

President of the GLTA Ramesh Seebarran during his address stated he expects between 50 -60 persons to participate in the camp and that while tennis is the least sponsored sport locally, the GLTA will continue to work towards exposing the game.

Managing Director of P and P Insurance Brokers and Consultants Limited Bish Panday stated that the company is once again happy to partner with the GLTA in this their annual camp as it provides the opportunity for aspiring tennis players to be exposed.

“It is an established fact that sporting activities are complimentary to the development of young individuals and helps in the cultivation of a healthy lifestyle. We are committed to the development of sports and the nurturing of young talent and we will continue in that direction”, added Panday.

National coach Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan during an invited comment said that she is really looking forward to the camp and for the opportunity to train new persons who would excel in the sport.
