Jamaica beat Leewards to record their first win

ST. ELIZABETH, Jamaica, CMC- Jamaica recorded their first win in the West Indies Under-15 Tournament when they defeated the Leeward Islands by six wickets at Manley Horne Park, St Elizabeth on Tuesday.

Resuming on 17 for four with a lead of 12 runs, the Leewards were bowled out for 76 in their second innings with Tassilo Allen one of two Leeward Islands batsmen to get into double figures hitting a quick 19.

Left-arm pacer Shalome Parnell, who claimed three wickets for two runs overnight, went on to take four for 18.

Parnell’s opening-ball partner pacer Michael Harriott supported with three for 34.

Allen single-handedly led the Leewards response, scaring Jamaica with a string of quick wickets.

He grabbed four wickets for 33 runs reducing Jamaica to 48 for 4.

However, an unbeaten 21 from Captain Brad Barnes got the Jamaicans over the line.

The Leewards had posted 150 for nine declared off 42 overs in their first innings on day one, when Barnes took four wickets. Jamaica, in reply, made 155 for seven.

Wicketkeeper, Rashjni Roye, 58 not out, and Parnell, 40, led the way in Jamaica’s first innings.
