NSC 11-race cycle programme set for Saturday

The inner circuit of the National Park will once again be transformed into a speedway on Saturday when National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohamed and the National Sports Commission (NSC) collaborate to pedal off an 11-race cycle programme.

The event which will commence at 9:00hrs is geared towards assessing the improvements of the 54 registrants participating in this year’s 37th annual ‘Teach Them Young’ cycling programme which is coordinated by Mohamed and sponsored by the NSC.

This year’s ‘Teach Them Young’ clinic started on July 8 and has attracted riders as young as five-years-old.

The two-hour, five-days-per week programme which begins at 9:00hrs will conclude on August 30.

Saturday’s meet is also expected to attract the crème-de-le-crème of the nation’s cyclists with the  main event seeing the top juniors and senior riders going wheel-to-wheel in the Invitational 35-lap event.

Other categories scheduled to be contested include the 12 to 14 years boys and girls (3 laps), veterans under-50 years (5 laps), veterans over-50 years (5 laps), veterans over-60 years (5 laps), juveniles (10 laps), upright cyclists (5 laps), BMX boys open (3 laps), BMX boys 12 to 14 years (3 laps), BMX boys 9 to 12 years (3 laps) and BMX boys 6 to 9 years (3 laps).

Director of Sport, Neil Kumar will distribute the prizes to the respective winners.
