Trinidad and Jamaica draw different groups for CONCACAF Under-20

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands,  CMC- Trinidad and Tobago have been drawn in Group B along with host and seeded team Cayman Islands, Honduras and Mexico for the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship to be hosted in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, from January 9 to 19.

The draw for the eight-team tournament which will also feature Jamaica, Costa Rica, Guatemala and USA in Group A took place on Tuesday night at the Westin Seven Mile Beach.

The top three teams, in the 11-day football festival, will qualify for the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, which be hosted by Canada next year.

The two groups of four teams will participate in round-robin play at the end of which the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals on Friday, January 17.

The semifinal winners will contest the final, as well as qualify directly for the U-20 Women’s World Cup while the winner of the third-place match also earns a coveted ticket to the event.

The fourth-place finishers also have a chance to qualify but will face a play-off against the third-ranked team from South America.

 

The USA has won three of the tournament’s four editions, including the inaugural competition in 2006 and the last in 2012.

Canada was crowned champion in 2008.
