Mohammed’s Enterprise to sponsor Kashif and Shanghi Chico schools competition first prize

Mohamed’s Enterprise yesterday continued its 20-plus year tradition of supporting the Kashif and Shanghai (K&S) year- end football tournament.

During a simple ceremony at the Lombard street entity, CEO, Nazar Mohamed pledged to sponsor the first prize of $1.2M and 25 replica trophies which will go to each player on the winning school team in this year’s 24th edition of the competition.

Mohamed will also assist with the airfare and accommodation of the Region Seven team, Waramadong which is in the neighbourhood of $3M.

In brief remarks, the businessman promised to continue his support of the K&S Organization and also applauded the new initiative which involves secondary schools instead of the traditional senior ball clubs.

Co-founders of the K&S Organization, Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major and Kashif Muhammad welcomed the support and mentioned that they will continue to do their part in the development of the discipline locally.

This year’s competition involves 24 of the nation’s top secondary school’s vying for the top honours. The  competition kicks off on December 8 at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda and concludes on January 1 at the Providence National Stadium.

The institutions placing second, third and fourth will each receive prize monies amounting to $750,000, $500,000 and $250,000, in cash respectively.

However, 75% of the total prize will also go towards a project identified by the schools.

Teams vying for the prizes will come from Georgetown, Linden, Region Seven, West Demerara, East Coast, East Bank, Region Seven and Berbice. The city teams are St. George’s Secondary, Lodge Secondary, East Ruimveldt Secondary, North Georgetown Secondary, Queen’s College, Dolphin Secondary, Christ Church Secondary and Queenstown Secondary.

Wismar/Christianburg, Wisburg Secondary, New Silver City and McKenzie High School will represent Linden. Waramadong will showcase Region Seven. The East Bank Demerara teams are Covent Garden Secondary and Friendship Secondary.

The Ancient County will be represented by Ash Education Trust while Bladen Hall, President’s College, Ann’s Grove Secondary and Annandale Secondary will come from the East Coast.

Leonora Secondary, Stewartville Secondary, Uitvlugt Secondary and Patentia Secondary are the schools from the West Side.

These were the same top 24 teams in the Digicel nationwide school’s tournament which was staged earlier this year.
