Upper Demerara still keen on January 1 finale

The Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) will continue to explore more avenues in order to get the green light for the staging of the GT Beer final on January 1.

According to president of the UDFA, Sharma Solomon, despite Saturday’s unanimous ruling at the GFF’s general council meeting not to have

the tournament’s final staged on the same day as the GFA/Banks Beer competition, his association will continue to work assiduously to find a favourable solution.

“The UDFA  will be having a meeting quite soon to discuss this matter further in order to have a favourable conclusion”, Solomon told Stabroek Sport on Thursday.

“The general council was not encouraged of the idea of two finals playing the same day and voted unanimously not to have the UDFA hold our tournament on New Year’s Day but our tournament is exclusively for Linden clubs and the sponsor had no problems with us staging the tournament on January 1”.

Solomon added “This calls for a discussion because what becomes of January 1 as a playing date going forward let’s say on January 1 2015? So the UDFA will continue to pursue avenues within the confines of the constitution for us to hold our final on that date”.

Solomon also asked the question how can the Kashif and Shanghai hold their tournament final on New Year’s Day but the UDFA cannot?
