GT Beer tourney organizers to stage final in Linden in defiance of GFF ruling

Well known businessman in Linden, Dennis Muhammad aka Jafar is adamant that the final of the GT Beer tournament will kick off on January 1 despite the ruling by the GFF’s general council not to have it staged on that date.

The general council voted unanimously not to have the tournament’s final held on New Year’s Day in order to prevent a clash with the GFA/Banks tournament.

However during a phone call to this publication yesterday, Muhammad stated that “our stance is that the finals of the Linden tournament will be played in Linden on January 1 by any means necessary”.

The influential and concerned resident of the Mining Town added “We will disregard their ruling, the powers that be need to let peace reign, our community of Linden is saying football is our culture and we will have a final in Linden on New Year’s Day.”

Muhammad continued “The people and the businesses are concerned about the welfare of our own and are fully behind this Linden tournament and we will not break.”

His comments came on the heels of statements made by president of the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA), Sharma Solomon who said he will continue to explore more avenues in order to get the green light for the staging of the GT Beer final on January 1.

Solomon added “This calls for a discussion because what becomes of January 1 as a playing date going forward let’s say on January 1 2015?, so the UDFA will continue to pursue avenues within the confines of the constitution for us to hold our final on that date.
