Slingerz Football Club on Sunday defeated Monedderlust of Berbice 3-0 in their round of 16 matchup when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Cup continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.

With conditions soggy underfoot, Colin Nelson opened the scoring for the Vergenoegen side in the 20th minute with a volleyed effort into the bottom of the net from inside the penalty area, after collecting a perfectly placed right sided corner kick.

Slingerz would increase their lead one minute into the resumption of the second period through Kevon Woodley.

Fighting off his marker inside the left side of the penalty area, Woodley would place his strike into the lower right hand corner of the net.

Dwain Jacobs almost made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute but his right footed strike in a one-on-one situation from the centre of the 18-yard box was denied by Monedderlust custodian Elvis Rutherford at point blank range with his legs.

The Slingerz captain however, would not be denied as he found the back of the net eight minutes later with a simple finish down the middle of the net from the left side of the penalty area, after latching onto a perfectly played lobbed pass by midfield lynchpin Vurlon Mills.

In the second round of 16 matchup, Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United edged Pele by a 2-1 score line at the end of extra time, after normal time failed to separate the two sides at 1-1.
