Starr technicians get Samsung service training

Starr Computers has initiated the first of a planned series of training programmes for staffers in its technical department aimed at equipping them to service and repair contemporary, high-end Samsung Smart Televisions.

A four-member Samsung team headed by engineers Hector Guevara and Angel Andres visited Guyana this week specifically to execute the specialized training programme.

Starr Chief Executive Officer Mike Mohan said in a statement that the training programme was a collaborative exercise between the local company and the South Korean information technology giant. He explained that the training programme was part of a coordinated initiative to ensure that the recent launch of the new Samsung Experience store at Starr’s Brickdam complex was attended by a high quality of service. Samsung had announced some time earlier that the aggressive promotion of its brand in the Caribbean would include the opening of more than 40 stores in the region.

The technical training programme which was attended by 12 technical support personnel covered the servicing and repairs of both hardware and software.

Mohan said the training was important since it sought to ensure that customers acquiring the new Samsung televisions could be assured of the kind of servicing support from Starr which they were unlikely to secure anywhere else in the country. He said training in the new product line “adds greater capacity to Starr Service Centre which is already certified to service and repair other major international brands.”

One of the largest IT service centres in the Caribbean, Starr has, over past two decades, specialized in IT repairs, research and development and manufacture of computers.
