New auditors body president wants to accelerate training

Newly elected President of the Guyana Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors Jaigopaul Ram has told Stabroek Business that he will be seeking to enhance the image of the profession in Guyana during his one-year term which commenced in June this year and concludes in May next year.

Ram, who serves as Director of Finance at the Guyana Water Authority (GWI) was elected to replace Deodat Indar, Company Secretary and Finance Controller at Sterling Products Ltd, who served two terms as president.

Speaking with Stabroek Business last week Ram said the new executive had set itself a number of critical tasks aimed at building capacity among internal auditors.

Those tasks include securing training opportunities and accelerating training for auditors in the areas of risk management and corporate governance. Ram also said that training would be aimed at ensuring that Internal Auditors develop a better understanding of their role.

An Internal Auditor is an employee charged with providing independent and objective evaluation of an organisation’s financial and operational activities including its corporate governance strategies. Internal Auditors also provide evaluations of operational efficiencies and report to management on how to improve the overall structure and practices of the organisation.
