Look carefully. Do you see the large spider in the photo? It is the Venezuelan Suntiger [Psalmopoeus irminia). Regardless of its name, it is relatively common in the forests of Guyana. A treetop dweller, the Suntiger grows up to 6 inches in diameter and looks quite ferocious with its bright orange tiger striped markings on its abdomen. Although it is capable of biting and injecting a venom that would make you uncomfortable, the Suntiger, like most tarantulas, would rather flee than face conflict with something as large as a person.
