(Jamaica Observer) KINGSTON, Jamaica — Six police officers have been suspended following a probe by the Inspec-torate of Constabulary (IOC) into the circumstances surrounding the death of 31-year-old Mario Dean on Wednesday, August 6 at the Barnett Street Police Station in Montego Bay.
A statement from the Police High Command yesterday said that among the officers suspended are two Police Corporals and one Police Constable, while three District Constables were suspended; all attached to the Barnett Street Police Station in St James.
The officers, who were on duty when Dean was allegedly beaten by prisoners in his cell on Sunday, August 3, were interdicted pending the investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, Acting Commissioner of Police, Glenmore Hinds is urging for patience while the investigations continue.
“We are urging citizens to remain calm and are appealing to relatives to support the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and Police investigators in their probe.
We are assuring the citizenry that the JCF recognises the duty of care and we will be unrelenting in this regard, especially as it relates to persons in our custody,” said Acting Commission-er Hinds.
