Antigua’s Attorney General freed of fraud charge

(Jamaica Gleaner) Antigua’s Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin has been freed of a fraud charge.

Benjamin was on trial on allegations of passport fraud.

The prosecution had alleged that in 2008 Benjamin had signed a passport application form and photograph for Jamaican Shane Anthony Alleyne.

Alleyne had claimed to have been Antiguan Tyrell Brann when he applied for and obtained the Antigua and Barbuda passport.

It was discovered that Brann was dead at the time the application was made.

When the matter came up for hearing yesterday the court was told that investigators do not have enough evidence to prosecute the attorney general.
