Fixin T&T knocks PM’s Christmas billboards

(Trinidad Guardian) Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s Christmas messages on billboards across the country continue to draw criticism from some sectors of society.

Government ministers, however, are baffled by the response to the billboards. Kirk Waithe, head of civil society group Fixin T&T, joined the growing list of critics yesterday.

“The PM’s latest drive to impose images of herself on the people at every turn is dictatorial and serves only to deepen our anxiety,” Waithe said in a press release.

“We remind the people of T&T that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. We call for all of these billboards to be immediately removed and continue to insist on the protection of political party and campaign financing legislation.

“The billboards across the country bearing the image of the Prime Minister are offensive and represent the continuation of a very disturbing trend

from an administration that has demonstrated blatant disregard, if not outright contempt, for the Constitution of T&T and many pillars of our democracy.”
