GPL laments electrocution of boy

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has lamented the electrocution of  eight-year-old Joshua Regis of Enterprise Primary School by illegal ‘live’ electrical wires channelled through a waterway and says this has once more highlighted the danger to life and limb that this practice poses.

In a statement yesterday, GPL,  in extending its condolences to the family of the deceased,  decried the increasing practice of electricity theft and urged members of the public to act responsibly in reporting any instance of this.

GPL said that the illegal connections, often done in collusion with persons purporting to be GPL staff, is the “single biggest problem faced by GPL, both in terms of revenue lost, overloading the power lines and the possible loss of lives and damage to property.”

The utility company says that reports on electricity theft can be made to HOTLINE 592-225-5251.

For more details on how to easily access legal electricity supply, members of the public  can call 592-226-2606 or visit the GPL website http://www. gplinc. net/contact/theft .
