Mother of Jaden Mars awaiting final report on his death

The mother of four-year-old Jaden Mars is waiting for the investigation results from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation into the child’s death.

Natalie Casey told Stabroek News, “I have to give them [GPHC] a chance; before I take any action or move on, I need to wait on what the hospital has to say.”

Casey said she spoke with GPHC’s CEO Michael Khan on Thursday after he held a press conference stating that no single person had been found culpable for the death of Mars. She said it was her understanding that the investigation had been finalised and that the findings would be examined further before she was given an update.

Casey told Stabroek News on Sunday that she had to be patient and she was hoping this week GPHC would meet her. “I am hoping that very soon, that this week they can provide me with an update… I need to hear what they have to say,” Casey stated.

Mars’ mother who is currently seven months pregnant said the shock of losing her four-year-old did preoccupy her mind. “It is still shocking, I know my baby, I know Jaden is gone and now I have to stay positive and keep praying for sustenance.”

She said that any future legal action against GPHC would need to be decided upon after fully considering the finding of the investigation. Casey stated that she was hoping for closure and some resolution into her son’s sudden death, but that the pain of losing her son would never go away.

On December 11, Mars was admitted to GPHC to have sutures done on his tongue; he had earlier fallen and bitten his tongue. The child was reportedly given more than one dose of anaesthetic which resulted in heart failure.

On Thursday last, Khan at a press conference, stated that no one person was found responsible for Mars’ death, therefore no one was suspended or relieved of duty as a result of the death.
