Sophia 73-year-old man missing

The caretakers of a 73-year-old man say he has been missing since last Wednesday and are seeking help to find him.

Desiree Stephens of 154 E Block Sophia says she has been caring for the now missing Frances Gaston for about three years now. The man lived with Stephens and her granddaughter at the Sophia residence where they cared for him.

He has two daughters, one of whom resides overseas and another living in Berbice. Stephens said that Gaston began behaving strangely following a surgery he took to remove a cyst from his stomach last September.

“He would get on bad when we tell he fuh ress heself. He did accustom to doin he lil wuk but after he get sick we used to try to get he fuh rest.” She also said that his memory declined rapidly and that he was somewhat senile.

The woman said that while she was at work last week Wednesday, the man told her granddaughter that he was going to see a friend and became verbally abusive  when she tried to stop him. When he never returned home, the woman said that she called his friend, who he had visited several times in the past, and asked him about the whereabouts of the man.

She said that she got very worried when Gaston’s friend told her that he was not at home at the time Gaston went to visit her. Fearing the worst, the woman lodged a missing person’s report with the police on Thursday.

Since the man went missing, Stephens says he has reportedly been sighted  in Sophia near the “Blacka” bridge which connects Sophia to Guyhoc Park, in Mocha New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara and near the dumpsite in Eccles.

The last time the man was spotted he was wearing blue pants, a white shirt, and was barefooted. Stephens is asking that anyone with knowledge of the man’s whereabouts call 687-6891, 617-1425, 219-1393, or contact the nearest police station.
