Cops probing alleged abduction of Pomeroon girl

The police at Charity, Essequibo Coast are investigating the alleged abduction of a 14-year-old girl from Tenez Ferme, Lower Pomeroon River.

Desiree Matthias was last seen on Monday February 10 standing opposite the Charity Police Station with her friend Annika (only name provided).

Stabroek News was told that the girl had travelled to Charity with her parents to purchase several items and was with her friend around 12 pm when a woman approached them and grabbed Matthias’ hand. “The lady say that she taking Desiree to wuk in a Chinese restaurant in Anna Regina to serve food

and then she ask me if I wan go but I tell she I gat to ask meh mother first,” Annika said. She added that another teenage girl and a man were in the company of the woman. According to information, the woman wears a lot of jewellery on her hands and it is a regular habit for her to take young girls against their will to various locations along the Essequibo Coast to work.

The matter was reported to the Charity Police Station by Desiree’s friend Annika and her parents. Police stations along the coast were also informed.

The parents of the missing girl are asking for the cooperation of the public in locating their daughter.
