Body recovered after Pomeroon River collision

The body of the man who went down near Grant Aberdeen, Lower Pome-roon River on Monday night after a collision between two boats was recovered around 1pm on Wednesday in the same area.

Police at Charity conducted the search along with the captain of the boat that capsized, Anthony Doodnauth, and his father David Dass, who employed Ronald Ewart Newyear also known as ‘Blacka’, and positively identified the man’s body.

This newspaper understands that Newyear, 23, of Barama’s Quarter, Land of Canaan had travelled to the Pomeroon to do construction work. He and Doodnauth were going to a shop to buy bread late Monday night when the collision occurred causing the occupants to be thrown into the Pomeroon River.

An aunt of Newyear, who lives in Berbice, was informed of the incident. Police are still searching for the other boat involved in the mishap.
