Outpost rape allegation file with DPP – Crime Chief

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud yesterday told Stabroek News that the file on the   teen who was allegedly raped at the Stabroek Market outpost is now at the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 16-year-old alleged that he was sexually assaulted on January 26 inside a police outpost at the Stabroek Market. His accusations incited much criticism against the Guyana Police Force from human rights organisations and an opposition political party since it came on the heels of the Colwyn Harding baton rape allegation.

A senior official of the Ministry of Human Services had said the ministry was seeking a psychiatric evaluation for the teen after he scaled the roof of this newspaper and the adjoining Police Consumer Coop Society and seemed to be considering jumping.

The boy had clambered onto the roofs to evade an abusive relative who claimed he fabricated the allegations.
