Jagdeo doing well – Rohee

Former president Bharrat Jagdeo remains overseas for treatment of dengue. General Secretary of the PPP, Clement Rohee, stated that he spoke with Jagdeo and that the former president was doing well.

Rohee stated that he did not inquire about the details of the former president’s health and that he only spoke with him as a comrade. Rohee stated at yesterday’s PPP press conference that the party would not be issuing any statements on behalf of Jagdeo’s health noting that those were personal matters.

He stated that since Jagdeo was no longer a sitting president the PPP had no obligation to issue any statements on his health albeit the fact that Jagdeo is a member of the Central Committee.

Rohee told the media that he spoke briefly with the former president and that his only inquiry was in relation to how Jagdeo was recuperating and not what he was recuperating from or which hospital he was treated at. Sources confirmed that Jagdeo travelled to the United States on Friday after being advised by local medical experts that his strain of dengue may be better treated overseas. Stabroek News was made to understand that Jagdeo was previously in India on business prior to flying back to Guyana and then travelling to the US for medical attention.

Meanwhile his decision to seek overseas medical attention has critics wondering if Guyana’s medical capabilities are deficient. Bheri Ramsaran, Minister of Heath told Stabroek News that Guyana was equipped to handle dengue treatment, however Jagdeo as a private citizen was free to seek care anywhere in the world.
