Kitty man charged with cocaine possession for trafficking

A Kitty man, who was allegedly found with 19 grammes of cocaine at his house, was remanded to prison on Tuesday after he appeared in a city court.

Joseph Ramsey, 42, of 14 Railway Line, Kitty, denied the allegation that on March 3, at his residence, he was caught with the cocaine on him, resulting in the possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking charge.

Ramsey’s lawyer, Adrian Thompson, refuted the police’s claim that the drug was found on Ramsey. However, based on the nature of the charge, he did not make a bail application.

Ramsey was subsequently refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who transferred the case to Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 2. There, Magistrate Ann McLennan endorsed the refusal of bail and adjourned the case until March 19, when it is to be called for report and fixtures.
