Parliament committee lauds Mahaicony Hospital on ambience

The Mahaicony Hospital was admired and complimented for its “beautiful ambience” when a team from the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Social Services visited last Friday.

The team, headed by the chairperson, Indra Chandarpal, comprised  Dr Vishwa Mahadeo and Rennita Williams as well as Valerie Garrido-Lowe, John Adams, Mabel Baveghems and Dr Vindhya Persaud.

They were accompanied by chairman of Region Five, Bindrabhan Bisnauth; regional executive officer, Ashford Ambedkar; regional health officer, Dr. Gavinash Persaud and communications officer, Sandie Ross-Hendricks.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Chandarpal said they were there to “assess and make recommendations…”

She told the regional officials and senior hospital staff that they would be praised or criticized according to their performance.

The team had also promised to “offer solutions” while commenting that the condition of the hospital’s environment was excellent.

She told them that they had also spoken out on some issues they observed while visiting the Best Hospital in West Demerara.  They were surprised that when they returned to that hospital a month later, as promised, all of the recommendations were acted upon for the benefit of everyone.

Bisnauth told the team that constructive criticism would be welcomed and would not be taken as being negative.

He said too that, “There is always scope for improvement and in our humble way we try with our staff…”
