A former suspect in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Inshan Ali Ramlakhan says he knows the identity of the shooter and is willing to cooperate with police, according to Ramlakhan’s family members.

Family members told this newspaper yesterday that several young men were lined up in an identification parade (ID) and the 15-year-old boy who was walking with Ramlakhan at the time of the early morning attack was put to identify the shooter.

However, the teen said none of the men in the ID parade was the man who shot Ramlakhan during the wee hours of March 6, as he was on his way to work.

Family members said they had suspected a man to be the shooter but he too was ruled out by the teen.

However, they said the man has told the family he knows who the shooter is and has described the shooter to the family.

It was further stated that the former suspect and his family are willing to cooperate with the police and the police are currently conducting investigations into the matter.

Ramlakhan, of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, was shot within the vicinity of Conversation Tree, East Coast Demerara after a lone gunman approached him and the teen on a bicycle, demanding they hand over their valuables. He subsequently succumbed in hospital.

The man was shot after he decided to put up some resistance, which led to the gunman shooting him once to his upper left side shoulder. A post-mortem examination conducted on Ramlakhan’s body on Wednesday found that he died as a result of the gunshot wound caused by the bullet entered through his shoulder and puncturing his kidneys, according to family members.

The gunman escaped on his bicycle after grabbing Ramlakhan’s two cellphones along with the teen’s cellphone and $8,000.

Ramlakhan was buried yesterday.
