St Lucia lifts quarantine on boat on which Guyanese sailor died

The Health Authorities in Saint Lucia have conditionally lifted the quarantine of the Saint Vincent & the Grenadines-registered Cargo Vessel, Lady Zai on which a Guyanese sailor died and another fell ill, a release from the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) said today.

The boat left Guyana on March 9, 2014 for St Lucia with ten Guyanese crewmembers on board. During the voyage, one crewmember died, and another became ill and was subsequently hospitalized on the island. He has since been released, the MARAD statement said today.

Officials from  MARAD are continuing to work with their colleagues in Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines and the owners of the ship, with respect to the welfare of the Guyanese sailors, MARAD said. The identity of the dead person has not been released.
