Man shot, robbed at Providence

A 33-year-old man employed at Noble House Seafoods was yesterday shot once to the abdomen and robbed of over half a million dollars as he was making his way from the bank to his workplace.

Shane James, a father of one and of Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, according to police was robbed around 1:00pm on the Providence, East Bank Demerara roadway. It was further stated by police that James was awaiting transportation when two men on a motorcycle, one of whom was armed with a firearm confronted him.

The armed man shot James to his abdomen, took away the bag he carried containing $537, 000 and escaped.

James was admitted to a private hospital and investigations are in progress.

James, a contractor-supervisor told this newspaper that he left his workplace around 11:30am and went to the bank. He said he dropped off with a taxi but was unable to get a taxi to pick him up at the bank so he decided to walk onto the main road to flag one down.

He added that as the taxi driver was reversing to collect him, he made his way across the road and the two men approached him, grabbed his bag and shot him.

He said after he was shot, he got into the same taxi, called his family members and headed to the hospital. His condition up to late yesterday afternoon was said to be stable.

According to a family member, he was shot to the lower left side abdomen and the bullet exited at the centre of his stomach beneath the rib cage.

The matter is presently being investigated by the police.
