Awena Rutherford, 21, of Mahaicony was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read by Magistrate Zamila Ally.

It is the prosecution’s case that on March 27, at Lot 10 Supply, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, Rutherford murdered Odacia and Jabari Codogan

According to reports, on March 27, at approximately 5 pm, Rutherford picked up her children, four-year-old Odacia Codogan and sixteen-month-old Jabari from their aunt’s home at Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara. She took them to her Perth, Mahaicony home.

Post-mortem examinations conducted on the children by Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh ruled they died of insecticide poisoning.

The case was adjourned until April 27.
