Mabaruma woman accused of trying to kill niece

-over suspected affair with husband

A Mabaruma resident, charged with attempting to murder her niece, is now remanded to prison after she appeared in a city court yesterday.

It is alleged that Uenita Marcellino, 26, of Hobo Hill, North West District, on April 8, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Lynette Margow with the intent to commit murder.

However Marcellino, was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read by

The prosecution asserts that Marcellino, who had consumed alcohol, armed herself with a knife and confronted Margow, who she accused of having an affair with her husband. During the argument, Margow was stabbed about her body. Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that the attack was reported and this led to Marcellino’s arrest and charge.

Granted object to bail, while noting that the victim is an admitted patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she is listed as critical.

The Chief Magistrate subsequently remanded Marcellino and transferred the case to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court.

The case will be called again on May 19.
