Young mother found dead in North West camp

A young mother of two was found dead yesterday at Baramita, North West District.

Police said an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of Destina Basil, 25, who was found in a camp at Baramita at around 7am yesterday morning with blood oozing from her nostrils.

Her body is at the Port Kaituma Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination (PME), which is expected to be done on Sunday.

Sources told Stabroek News that Basil was believed to have been drinking with friends and family the night before her body was found. It was reported that an altercation had broken out but it was not known if the altercation subsequently led to her death. However, when her body arrived at the Port Kaituma Hospital, there were visible marks of violence on her back and neck.
