Luke appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who informed him that he was not required to plead to the charge. He is accused of killing 15-year-old Winsley Roberts.

According to Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, Robert and his brother Ben Luke were drinking cassiri with their mutual friend, Wilkey Peters at Bamboo Creek Settlement, North Pakarimas, when they had a misunderstanding about going to a party. A fight then ensued, and the brothers fought with Peters until he managed to escape and subsequently returned home.

Peters’ brothers, Glenford Edwin and Winsley Roberts, who later learnt of the fight, went in search of the Luke brothers and another fight ensued. It is alleged that during the confrontation, Robert then took away Winsley’s knife and stabbed him in the left side of his chest.

Luke is due to next appear at the Lethem’s Magistrate’s Court on June 2.
