Duo on bail after denying store theft

Two men, Jason Manbodh and Deon Gordon were placed on $100,000 bail yesterday after they appeared before a city magistrate and denied breaking and entering Cellular Plus Store and carting off $38,500.

Manbodh, of 343, Middle Street, South Cummingsburg and Gordon, 32, of 88 Leopold Street, Georgetown, denied the allegation when it was read to them before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru objected to bail on the ground that the two defendants may not appear to answer the charge as well as the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.

Gordon’s attorney, George Thomas, opposed Mangru’s objection and asserted that his client will appear to answer the charge. He further stated that Gordon is willing to surrender his passport.

Subsequently the Chief Magistrate granted an unrepresented Manbodh and Gordon $100,000 bail, after Thomas said that the $150,000 originally set bail, was beyond what his client could afford.

The matter will be called again on June 27th.
