A 22-year-old Hosororo Hill, Mabaruma man committed suicide on Monday evening and his teenage lover tried to do the same after the two had encountered problems in their relationship.
This newspaper understands that the man, Tommy Bennett and the teenager lived together for a brief period last year but after probation officers learnt of the relationship the young woman was taken back to her parents. She returned to Bennett’s home earlier this year.
“The welfare department was involved last year and she was supposed to go back to school and a while ago she left her parents’ house to go and live with him,” the source said.
According to the source, Bennett used a hammock to hang himself while his teenage lover ingested poison.
The source added that the teenager was admitted to the Mabaruma Hospital shortly after the incident and was treated and sent away.
