Accused gold band thief released on bail

Todd Browne, who stands accused of snatching a $150,000 gold band, was placed on bail after he denied the charge when he appeared before a city magistrate on Monday.

Browne denied that on May 30, at Stabroek Market, he stole the gold band from Latchmi Narine, when the charge was read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He was placed on $100,000 bail, after Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru’s objections on the grounds of the seriousness of the crime and its prevalence were overruled.

The matter was later transferred to Courts 8 and 9, where it was adjourned until June 20.
