Accused of assaulting and threatening to kill the mother of his children, an Albouystown man was yesterday released on bail after denying the charges and promising to leave the woman alone.
The allegation against Germaine Gill, 33, of 184 Lyng Street, Albouystown, is that on June 8 and 10, respectively, he unlawfully assaulted and used threatening language to Jocelyn Grant, thereby resulting in a breach of the peace.
He denied both charges at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he was arraigned yesterday.
Prosecutor Jomo Nichols, who presented the facts of the case, said that the parties share a common law relationship and have two children together.
On the day of the first alleged offence, Nichols told the court that the defendant went to the complainant’s home to take their children when an argument ensued, during which Gill scrambled Grant’s right hand, causing black and blue marks.
The court further heard that on June 10, Gill went to Grant’s worksite where he broke the window panes to the guard hut in which she was sitting before attempting to push an icepick through and he stated that he would kill her after accusing her of infidelity.
The prosecutor related that the woman became afraid and reported the matter to the police after which Gill was arrested and charged.
The trial commenced at yesterday’s hearing during which Gill accused Grant of being unfaithful—a claim she denied.
The magistrate informed Grant that she can apply for a protection order under the Domestic Violence Act if she so desired.
It was at this point that Gill said that he will stay away from the woman, her premises and even their children.
“I won’t go round her or by she house. I won’t even go and see the children anymore,” the mason said.
Afterward, Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond placed Grant on $15,000 bail for each charge.
The trial continues on June 17.
