Vendor accused of assaulting pregnant woman

A vendor is facing trial after being accused of assaulting a pregnant woman.

Alicia Watts, 30, of 5S Pike Street, North Sophia, who is a mother of six, was charged yesterday with assaulting Carla Weatherspoon, causing her to experience contractions and severe back pain.

Watts, who appeared before city magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond, denied the allegations that she assaulted Weatherspoon, who is six weeks pregnant.

Weatherspoon told the court that following a confrontation on June 17, Watts pushed her and she fell on her back, suffering the injuries as a result.

Watts was released on $25, 000 bail after attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat made a bail application on her behalf. She was ordered to return to court on July 3 for trial.
