Woman found dead in North Ruimveldt house still unidentified

The decomposing body of a woman, discovered in an unfinished building behind the Plaza, in North Ruimveldt on Sunday, still remains unidentified.

Police Crime Chief Leslie James told Stabroek News that the woman still had not been identified up to late yesterday afternoon. He said that a porter attached to a funeral home, who takes care of the building, remains in custody, assisting the police as they continue to investigate.

Residents said the woman’s body was discovered by the building’s caretaker around 9am on Sunday June 29, as he arrived to carry out his rounds. After making the discovery, the man went to the North Ruimveldt Police Station and reported what he had found.

It is still unclear how the woman gained access to the building, since the gate is usually locked. The building has been in an unfinished state for more than six years, one resident said.
