Duo accused of stealing $1.5M in iron fittings

Accused of stealing over $1.5 million in iron fittings, Nigel Munesar and Shawn Pratab were yesterday released on bail following their appearance in the Georgetown Magistrate’s court.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry which read that on July 12th on Water Street, Agricola the two men stole a propeller shaft, a drill pipe and other iron materials amounting to a total of $1.8 million from Yaresh Bhola.

Horse cart operator, Munesar, 42, of Diamond Housing Scheme and ‘Seaman’ Pratab, 25 of Water Street were represented by Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat. In his application for bail, Fung-A-Fat related to the court that the men were working for Bhola who instructed them to move the items off his property. He asked that the duo be granted reasonable bail, noting that the property in question was recovered.

Mangru however stated that only a few of the items were recovered.

The duo was granted bail at $100,000 each and will return to court on August 4th, the men will be required to report to the police station every fortnight.
