Jailed for 56 months over theft of chains, cash

A man who stole two gold chains and a quantity of cash from a woman was yesterday sentenced to 56 months imprisonment when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Randy Hawker, 35, accepted that on July 20 at Campbell Avenue, Georgetown he stole from the person of Trisan Fraser two gold chains and a quantity of cash all totaling $390,000.

Hawker resides at 59 Robb Street, Bourda.

When given a chance to speak, the construction worker begged the court for lenience, stating that he was beaten by public-spirited citizens.

The prosecution’s facts are that on the day in question the defendant was the pillion rider on a motorcycle when; as he was riding past the complainant he snatched her chains and the money mentioned in the charge.

The court heard that the man was apprehended and handed over to police by public-spirited citizens before being arrested and charged.

Meanwhile, his co-accused managed to escape.

After hearing the case, Hawker was informed that he would be sentenced to 56 months imprisonment.
