Two seamen missing after vessel capsizes off Corentyne River

Two Guyanese seamen from a team of four are missing after the fuel vessel they were in capsized off the Corentyne River on Tuesday night as they journeyed back home from the neighbouring country.

One of the missing men is the captain of the vessel. Their names have not been released but this newspaper understands that the other two crewmen were rescued by a Venezuelan vessel and are waiting to be collected by Guyanese officials sometime today.

“There were four crew members on board; two were rescued while the other two are missing. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the two missing crew members,” said a statement from Maritime Administration Department yesterday.

According to the agency, the vessel, the MV Swift Dolphin, was returning to Guyana from Paramaribo, Suriname when it capsized near the mouth of the Corentyne River.
