75 arrested during police search operations

The Guyana Police Force yesterday morning conducted cordon and search operations in ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Divisions, resulting in 75 arrests in total.

In a statement, police said that the operation in ‘A’ Division (Georgetown/East Bank Demerara) saw a total of 26 buildings being searched in Georgetown, Sophia, and at Kaneville, East Bank Demerara.

As a result, 50 men and six women were arrested, pending investigations into various offences, including armed robbery, narcotics trafficking and break and enter and larceny.

In addition, an unlicensed 16-gauge sawn-off shot gun, 695 grammes of marijuana and nine grammes of cocaine were also found during the operation.

In ‘C’ Division (East Coast Demerara), 26 buildings were searched also searched in the Sophia, Vryheid’s Lust, Cummings Lodge, Turkeyen and Better Hope South areas.

Nine men and three women were arrested, pending investigations into armed robbery and break and enter and larceny.

Two motor cycles that are suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained have been seized by the police, the police statement added.

Meanwhile, in ‘B’ Division (Berbice), six buildings were searched in the Alness, Limlair, Nurney and Salton areas, Corentyne, during which an air rifle was recovered. Seven men were arrested pending investigations into armed robbery and break and enter and larceny.
