Gafsons worker on larceny charge

A Gafsons Industries Limited worker was yesterday released on bail after denying that she stole from the company. Melissa Premnauth, 25, is accused of stealing $175,660 between June 9 and July 12 at the company’s offices at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, while being employed as a clerk or servant.

No further facts other than that stated in the charge were presented to Magistrate Fabayo Azore when the case was called at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

In a bail application, the woman’s attorney submitted that she has no antecedents, has a fixed address at 27 Timehri Public Road and poses no risk of flight.

Premnauth was subsequently granted $80,000 bail and she was ordered to return to court on October 6, when the case will be called for statements.
