Vigilante killing victim died of fractured skull

The autopsy of the Grove, East Bank Demerara man who was beaten to death by a mob of bystanders on August 29, after he allegedly tried to steal a purse from a woman, revealed that he died of a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage.

The dead man, Eldon Sampson, 24, of Old Road, Craig EBD had been released from prison only two months prior after serving time for larceny.

His family said the police told them that they don’t have any evidence to charge any member of the alleged mob and further advised them to try to gather such evidence themselves. They have pointed fingers at an individual nicknamed ‘Pumpkin’ or ‘Dogman’, because they received news that his car was used to take Sampson to the Grove Police Station.

According to the Crime Chief Leslie James the investigation is ongoing.
