Youth held with toy gun on attempted felony charge

A young man, who the police say was planning to use a toy gun to commit a robbery, was yesterday admitted to $30,000 bail after denying the charge.

Omar Williams, 19, of 177 Albouystown, appeared before city magistrate Judy Latchman on a charge of attempting to commit a felony.

The charge against Williams is that on August 30, at Georgetown, he was waiting on an opportunity to commit a crime with a toy gun, being armed robbery.

Williams’ attorney, Mark Conway, opined that it would be “quite something” for the prosecution to prove that Williams had the intention to commit robbery.

Conway made an application for reasonable bail, to which the prosecution had no objections and bail was set. The case was adjourned until September 10.
