Minister summons Corriverton solid waste contractor

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker on August 29th summoned solid waste contractor, Advance En-vironmental Solutions, over deficiencies in the services provided to the residents of Corriverton, Corentyne,

A release from the Ministry said that Whittaker had met with the contractor before on the same issue. He made it clear to the contractor that he would need to make the improvements which were agreed on during previous engagements among the contractor and the Corriverton Municipality and the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development or the company’s services would be terminated.

The release said that the improvements include increased frequency of garbage collection, sticking to the Company’s collection schedule which it had made available to the Municipality and the public; obtaining additional machinery/equipment for garbage collection and transportation; improved communication between the company and the Municipality and the establishment of an office at Corriverton before the end of September 2014.

Corriverton householders, the release said, have been complaining about the poor service of the contractor but that many of them have been guilty of dumping waste in public spaces and in the river.

The release said that the contractor undertook to work with the Council to bring about the desired improvements.
