New Teaching Service Commission sworn in

The members of the new Teaching Service Commission (TSC) were sworn in on Thursday before President Donald Ramotar.

Roopnarine Persaud, Kamal Persaud, Maydha Persaud, Chandrawattie Ramson and Allan Munroe were sworn in at a simple ceremony at the Office of the President, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported. Also sworn in were two members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Justices Prem Persaud and Lennox Perry.

GINA noted that the members of the Public Service Commission and the Police Service Commission were also sworn in recently. The lives of these commissions expired over the past year and the constitutionally mandated provisions for their reconstitution have finally been completed, it said.

“I understand that the absence of these commissions has caused some difficulty and inconvenience. So, they are in place. I hope that, very quickly, in terms of the problems that have been brought to my attention, will be solved. I hope the functioning of these two bodies will do very well in serving the people of our country,” GINA quoted Ramotar as saying at the ceremony, where he congratulated the new service commission members and voiced his hope that they will do well in serving Guyanese.
