Rupununi shopkeeper crushed by truck

A shopkeeper was killed on Friday afternoon after he was run over by a truck along the Poke Bridge, Lethem Trail.

Dead is 26-year-old Lindy Ambrose of Haiwa village, Central Rupununi, who was riding a motorcycle at the time of the incident. His wife Cordella Ambrose yesterday told Stabroek News that the driver of the truck informed her that what happened was a sudden accident and he could not really remember what occurred.

“He tell us some stupidy story that he was driving in the same direction as Lin when he see him pass him and then the next thing he know Lin was on the ground,” she related, noting that her husband was on his way to pick up his mother in the village.

She said around 6 pm on Friday she received a call that Ambrose, the father of her three children, was involved in an accident and when they arrived at the Lethem hospital he was already dead. She said the police told her that her husband had tried to overtake the vehicle when the incident occurred.

The driver of the truck was taken into police custody to assist with the investigations.
