A fisherman who allegedly broke and entered the house of his former employer was on Monday granted bail when he appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
Magistrate Sunil Scarce heard that on September 12 at Exmouth Essequibo Coast, 38-year-old Gregory Nohar broke and entered into the dwelling house of Omawattie Samaroo.
According to the police facts, at around 4 am on the day in question, Samaroo was at home asleep on a bed in her hall when she felt someone choking her. She got up and fought off the person, who then ran out on the public road. Samaroo had told the police that she recognised Nohar from the lights of a passing car.
Upon making checks the woman found that a Motorola cellular phone valued $12,000, an iPad charger valued $5,000, a phone charger valued $1,000 and $6,000 (a total of $24,000) were missing from her home.
Nohar who was not represented pleaded not guilty to the charge. There were no objections to bail by Prosecutor Haimwant Ramsewak who told the court that Nohar has a similar case pending in court. He also said that none of the items were recovered.
Bail was set at $100,000 and the man was ordered to return to the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on September 30 for the commencement of trial.
