‘Jagan’ remanded over Pomeroon murder

The man accused of murdering 21-year-old Rafael Danns called ‘Singh’ of Grant Anna Regina, Lower Pomeroon River was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.

Levoi La Cruz called ‘Jagan’, a 22-year-old gold miner of Grant Marlborough, Lower Pomeroon River was charged with murdering Danns.

As he stood in the prisoners dock, the man who was not represented was not required to plead to the indictable charge read to him by the magistrate which stated that on September 8, he murdered Danns.

According to the police facts, on the above mentioned date at around 10.15 pm, Danns and La Cruz were imbibing at a rum shop at Grant Marlborough when an argument ensued between the two. La Cruz then armed himself with a knife and dealt one stab to Danns’ left side stomach. He was taken to the Oscar Joseph District Hospital at Charity, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.    La Cruz disappeared but was arrested three days later at his uncle’s residence at Lillydale, Lower Pomeroon River.

The matter which was prosecuted by Haimwant Ramsewak saw bail being refused by the magistrate.

La Cruz will return to the Charity Magistrate’s Court in October 13 for the commencement of the preliminary inquiry into the matter.
