Suspected robber died of single gunshot – autopsy

A single gunshot wound killed Orlando Fredericks, 22, who died on Saturday evening shortly after he was suspected of participating in a robbery.

This is according to a post-mortem examination (PME) conducted on the dead man’s body yesterday.

Fredericks’ mother told Stabroek News that the PME revealed that the bullet went through Fredericks’ chest before exiting through his back. The police are still investigating the circumstances of Fredericks’ death. “Despite the reports that he might have committed a robbery, we still want to know who shot him,” Crime Chief Leslie James said when contacted. He went on, “that’s how we operate and we’re still investigating.”

The police in a statement said that at about 11.35 pm on Saturday, two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, held up a man in a shop at James and Non Pariel streets, Albouystown and took away his gold jewellery before escaping.

The police further said that Fredericks’ body was later found on Sussex Street, Albouystown with a suspected gunshot wound to the abdomen. However, the dead man’s family are claiming that Fredericks’ body was found on Independence Boulevard heading to the main road.

An aunt of Fredericks’ told Stabroek News that she heard a gunshot late Saturday night before seeing a police vehicle speeding past on James Street.
